The Eco Squad is led by Miss Humphreys.
The Eco Squad are responsible for looking after the sustainability of our school and making sure that we are doing everything we can to be 'as green as possible.'
We are always busy planting and harvesting our crops, looking after our poly tunnel and completing litter picks around the school. We are always trying to think of new ways in which we can help our school environment.
The Eco Squad meet on a Tuesday lunchtime fortnightly.
During the Christmas fete, we sold chutney jars that were made using green beans and courgettes that we grew in our poly tunnel. We also recycled donated school uniform and sold these to go to a new home. We have now used the money raised to buy books with an Eco theme. We are still continuing to raise money for a water butt!
Growing in the Community
We worked with "Friends of Morriston Park" and took part in a community growing project. Some of the Eco Squad went to help, along with Year 4.
One World Week
The Eco Squad led the whole school to take part in a project called "One World Week". The whole school completed activities which helped to highlight the importance of looking after our planet. We only have one world.
Dwr Cymru
We welcomed Sian from Dwr Cymru who came in to teach us all about how we can reduce our water usage. She delivered a fantastic assembly which really got us thinking about when we waste water - especially when brushing our teeth! Year 5/6 and the Eco Squad also took part in workshops.
Planting Trees
Most recently, we have worked with "Summit Good" and we planted 150 trees in our school grounds! We understand how important trees are and how we must look after them for a sustainable earth.
The next issue we are going to tackle is plastic in our school.
