    30th March 2020

    Dear Parents and Carers,

As a school, we would like to send our love and best wishes to all of you during this very uncertain time.  Our thoughts are with you.

As a school, we have always and will always place the well-being of our children and staff at the heart of everything we do.  It has been an extremely stressful time for everyone, including your children, whom we miss a great deal.

Please understand that all staff are striving to provide resources to support your child’s learning at home, but for now, I want to encourage you all to enjoy spending time with your child/children in the sunshine and taking part in some of the practical ideas staff have shared with you.  Make this time a time of fun for you all – even if you are confined to your own house and garden. Try not to concern yourself with academic work in the short term. There will be plenty of ideas on line and on our website if you wish to use them during this time.

We have set a two-week Easter break for all children and staff and I would ask you not to contact staff during this time unless it is necessary.

Please note the holiday dates for your child’s year groups below:

    Date

    30th March – 14th April

    6th April – 17th April

    13th April – 24th April

    Reception

    KS2 STFs

    Year 1/2

    Year 3/4

    FP STFs

    Year 5/6

This staggered approach will help us to organise a break for all staff but still allow for emergency contact if you need any help.

Please try to make sure that you or your children do not contact teachers via HWB at weekends or any later than 3.30 in the afternoon. The staff also need some well-deserved rest at this very stressful time. If you need help with an activity please check the class page on the website to see which teacher is available and responding to children or look at the information below.

These are the teachers who will be available to answer questions on HWB over the next few weeks.

Summary of guidance on social distancing for everyone in the UK

    Dear Parents and carers,

If you are considering using our emergency childcare provision or Flying Start please see the Government guidance on social distancing. I have included the summary information from the guidance for you. The safest place for your children right now is your own home. Please only use the emergency childcare if you have absolutely no other choice.

  • Emergency Childcare Update

    Sun 22 Mar 2020

    22nd March 2020

    Dear Parents and Carers,

As you are all aware school CEASED nationally on Friday 20th March. The Welsh Government announced the Easter HOLIDAYS have been bought forward for your children. We do not know when school will open again.

Our plans for the EMERGENCY CHILDCARE RESPONSE have been made for those key workers identified last week by the City and County of Swansea. Although the situation is fast moving any changes to the identified key workers list will take time to reorganise.

Staff are here to help and are working under strict guidance. We receive regular updates from the local authority and will keep you updated as things change. Please do not aim your frustration at the staff of the school. Many are putting their own families at risk to provide care for your children.

I have posted a video made by the Education Minister for Wales, Kirsty Williams, on twitter and in the ’latest news’ area on our website. The minister makes it very clear that the safest place for your children right now is your own home. Please only use the emergency childcare if you have absolutely no other choice.

We will be operating under the WHO and NHS guidelines to prevent the spread of the virus and this will include SOCIAL DISTANCING and REGULAR HAND WASHING.

    · If your child displays symptoms they will be sent home.

    · If anyone present displays symptoms we will inform you.

Please remember we have been asked to socially distance ourselves and being in childcare means your child will be mixing with other staff and children - if your child contracts the virus they may pass it on to more vulnerable members of your family.

Although we are currently able to provide limited emergency childcare please consider that some staff are already self-isolating and if more staff become ill we will no longer be able to provide this CRITICAL SERVICE which is so important to bringing an end to the CRISIS.

    Thank you and stay well.

  • Information for children who usually receive free school meals

    Sun 22 Mar 2020

Update for pupils who receive free school meals - Friday 20th March

    Dear Parents and carers

From Monday onwards, following some great work by our catering team “Grab and Go” bags will be available for all pupils who receive free school meals to pick up from school during the normal lunch hour.

The number of bags produced will be reviewed on a daily basis depending on the take up – any not used will be re-distributed to the community via food banks.

In the first instance can you please ring the school office to order lunch before 9 am on Monday morning 23rd March  if you would like to order meals for your children.

The food provided will be as follows:

Pupils who receive free school meals will have the following:-

Packed lunch (Filled Roll, Bottle of water, Fruit, Muffin or Yoghurt)

There will be no hot food served. This will be kept under review, but as this is an emergency situation  we have to cater for a vast number of pupils and food safety needs to be adhered to at all times to ensure a safe meal is provided for our pupils on time.

    Regards

5 things you need to know before sending your children to school or childcare

What you need to know about access to schools and childcare during the COVID-19 pandemic.

    1. The latest scientific advice

The most recent scientific advice on how to further limit the spread of COVID-19 is clear.

Everyone must, as far as possible, minimise social contact and make sure that anyone who is particularly vulnerable to the virus is able to adopt strict social distancing.

    2. How does social distancing affect schools and childcare settings?

We have advised schools and childcare should only be open to a limited number of children.

We must keep the number of children in educational, childcare and play settings to the smallest number possible.

We also need to make sure children are not left with anyone who should be following strict social distancing guidance, such as anyone over 70 or anyone with the specified underlying health conditions.

Keeping children safely in their home should limit the chance of the virus spreading and protect those vulnerable to more serious illness as a result of the virus.

If your child receives free school meals, this will continue. But the way your child gets this food depends on your school. Please check with them.

    3. What is the latest advice on key workers?

A list of categories of critical workers has been published on the Welsh Government website.

Places in schools and childcare will be highly limited and only particularly vulnerable children and the children of critical workers whose work is critical to the COVID-19 response should be attending during this time.

If you are classed as a critical worker but are able to perform the critical parts of your job effectively when working from home, then you should do so.

Even for critical workers, provision will only be made in schools or other settings where there is no safe alternative for your family.

    4. I’m a key worker but my partner isn’t. What should we do?

If one parent is a critical worker but the other parent is not then the other parent should provide safe alternative arrangements at home when possible.

    5. I’ve seen different advice from different councils. How are local authorities working?

Local authorities are doing everything they can to deal with the coronavirus pandemic. They made and communicated plans based as part of an initial contingency to deal with the spread of coronavirus. Those plans will now adapt and change as they respond to the latest guidance available to the Welsh Government. For the very latest advice, please check your local authority’s website and gov.wales/coronavirus

  • Emergency Childcare Update

    Fri 20 Mar 2020

    Dear Parent/Carer,

For most pupils, this school will close indefinitely from the end of the school day, 20th March. However, following a meeting of Morriston Headteachers this morning, we have agreed to work together, in the first instance, to open each school to support those parents and carers who are employed in the following essential workers categories as determined and directed by City and County of Swansea:

    • NHS workers
    • Emergency services
    • Police workers
    • Prison services
    • School workers
    • Social care workers

From Monday 23rd March, all schools in the cluster will open their buildings to operate emergency childcare for pupils between 3 and 14 years old. Your child will be supervised by staff from our school on a rota basis.

At present, this care is only available to single parent families or families where BOTH parents or carers fall into the essential workers categories listed above.

Initially, we will be open for children Monday to Friday between 8am and 5pm. It is envisaged that this can be a drop-in facility.  We are anticipating that breakfast, lunch and snacks will be provided. However, until we receive confirmation we would advise that you provide your child with a packed lunch.

Please ensure that the current data we hold for you in school is up to date, including emergency contacts and allergies.  You will be required to indicate who will pick up your child on a daily basis.

It is of immense importance that you follow current advice regarding hygiene and social distancing. Please see previous guidance from UK/WG websites.

It is our understanding that all childcare facilities, including, Flying Start, will operate as usual subject to staffing arrangements.

Please be assured that the health, safety and wellbeing of all our staff is of paramount importance and we continue to monitor this with the relevant bodies.

These arrangements follow the guidance issued to schools by the City and County of Swansea and will be monitored on a regular basis. We will keep you updated via the school website and usual communication channels.

    Regards

  • Latest Update

    Wed 18 Mar 2020

    Dear Parents and Carers,

These are unprecedented times and we all face new challenges that are likely to change on an almost-daily basis. We will do our best to keep you up to date as we receive information from the Welsh Government and Local Authority.

In anticipation of school closures in the near future, we will continue to develop remote working for schools via access to our website and Hwb.  Please make sure you and your child can access Hwb at home. The class pages of our website currently have lots of activities that can be completed at home if your family is self-isolating. You will find these on our homework grids. We will update these shortly.

    Our website address is www.claseprimaryschool.co.uk

Social media can be excellent way of keeping in touch with family and friends during self-isolation. However, we must stress that parents should use social media responsibly and if anyone is concerned about another’s social media activity, they should use the social media reporting tools. In these times of uncertainty, it is important that we continue to share information responsibly. If you have any questions about the school please contact the school office.

At the moment council services remain open. Following the government announcement today we will be assessing the position and making further detailed announcements tomorrow.

Government guidance is that schools should remain open for the time being. The message to parents is that, as in other areas of Wales, schools will open tomorrow as normal and the position will be kept under continuous review.

Residents and parents are urged to follow the Government’s revised social distancing guidelines and anyone who is experiencing symptoms should continue to follow Public Health Wales advice which can be found here: https://phw.nhs.wales/topics/latest-information-on-novel-coronavirus-covid-19/
