  • Half-Term Update

    Mon 25 May 2020

    Dear Parents and Carers,

As a school we would like you to know that even though we can’t be together you all continue to be in our thoughts.

We have been so pleased with the way you have all joined in the practical activities and we are glad you’ve enjoyed learning with your children. We are really pleased that you’ve all joined in our school theme ‘How does your garden grow’ and had so much fun!  We have especially loved seeing all the photographs of the amazing things you’ve been doing at home and the special messages you have sent to teachers.

Thank you for all your kind words on twitter and class dojo – they have really helped us to keep going and reminded us of what a special place Clase Primary School is and how much we miss the children.

We have set aside this week as our half term break for all staff and children. We would ask that you don’t contact staff this week or expect them to contact you as they will be taking a well-earned rest. The school office will be open for a limited time on Tuesday morning if you need to speak to someone but please only contact us if really necessary. Childcare will be open from Tuesday to Friday this week.

There won’t be any news activities on the learning grids this week but we have given the children two special missions instead. As this is such a unique time we are asking them to bury or hide a time capsule. We have made a video to help you get started with this mission. You will find it on our website under   ‘How does your garden grow?’

We know that lots of people on our community are feeling lonely right now because they can’t get out and about to see family and friends like they usually do so we are asking the children to make special posters as an act of kindness. The details are on our website and twitter.

We would like you all to take a little break from academic work this week. Please make the most of the lovely sunshine we are having - try to have some fun in your own home and garden.

Stay safe everyone and best wishes to you all

  • Mental Health Awareness Week

    Thu 21 May 2020

    Dear parents/carers,

National Mental Health Awareness Week takes place from 18th May - 24th May 2020 this year. Now, more than ever, it is so important that we take steps to look after our mental health. The theme for this year's campaign is 'kindness'. Being kind to ourselves and those around us is one way we can help to promote positive mental health during this tricky time.

Following a brilliant suggestion from one of our pupils, we have teamed up with Beth Pike, our Local Area Coordinator to spread some 'Colour and Kindness' to those in our community who find themselves alone at this tricky time. It would be great if you could get involved with our 'Community Kindness Challenge'. Details can be found below, all pictures need to be sent in by Friday 29th May.

If you would like further ideas and/or support to help you and your family through this tricky time, please visit our school wellbeing page.

    https://www.claseprimaryschool.co.uk/wellbeing/

The information has been put together by our fantastic 'Wellbeing team' who are available to contact if you need specific help. If this is the case, please contact your class teacher through ClassDojo/email and they will direct you to the team.

We hope you stay safe and well.

  • Letter to Parents

    Thu 14 May 2020

    Dear Parent/Carer,

I would like to thank you for all your support over the last few weeks since our schools closed to the majority of learners. I’m extremely proud of all the staff who work across schools and Education in Swansea as they’ve dealt with this crisis in a professional and caring way as they always do.

I’m also proud of our amazing children and young people who continue to show resilience and are fully engaged in their learning. It is such a pleasure to see Social Media full of examples of the positives that have come from this very difficult situation.

In Wales, it is the Welsh Government that will make the decision on when it is safe for our pupils, parents and school staff to return to our schools. As it currently stands there is no date for this to happen in Wales. When a decision is taken for learners to return to schools this will be communicated well in advance to parents.

Please be assured that we are working closely with our schools to ensure that they are supported in preparing for when this time comes. In the meantime, critical workers and those who need to use our emergency childcare hubs should continue do so. We will only look to have more pupils and staff in schools when it is safe to do so.

    Yours sincerely

    Nick Williams Director of Education

  • Peace and Goodwill Message

    Mon 11 May 2020

    Peace and Goodwill Message

    Dear Parents and Carers,

May 18th marks an important date in Wales. The Peace and Goodwill Message is unique to Wales, and has been delivered annually for the past 98 years to people all over the world by the young people of Wales.

This is the only message of its kind in the world! It has continued through world wars and significant changes in communications, from Morse Code to radio and the mailing service, to today's digital networks.

At this troubling time when we can’t all be together to share peace, love and goodwill with our friends and loved ones, we are asking parents, carers and children to join us on May 18th to share the important Peace and Goodwill message to others around the world.

    How can you get involved?

Take a picture of yourself making the triangle symbol (see picture examples below) and Tweet it to @claseprimary or send them to humphreysh3@hwbcymru.net NO LATER THAN SATURDAY 16TH MAY. They will be Tweeted on our page on the 18th of May.

More information about the Peace and Goodwill Message project can be found at: https://www.urdd.cymru/en/peace-and-goodwill/

Fascinating information about the history of the project can be found at: https://www.urdd.cymru/en/peace-and-goodwill/archive-message/

Help us to spread the message of Peace and Goodwill around the world!

    Diolch yn fawr!

  • Food Parcels Delivery

    Mon 04 May 2020

    Dear Parents and Carers,

The local authority is now providing food parcels for children who would usually receive free school meals (FSM). Last week, our first week of this new system, we tried a mixture of collections from school and delivery to family homes. This week we have decided to deliver all the parcels to your homes because we feel this is a safer way of getting the food to you and your children.

We will do our very best to deliver the food parcels to you between 12 and 2 pm each Monday. Please make sure you are at home to receive the food parcels or let us know if you don’t want us to deliver to your home.

The staff who are delivering your food parcel today have all volunteered to do this job because they care about your children. Please help them to deliver your child’s parcel safely by following these guidelines:

    • Please make sure that access to your home is safe. For example, please make sure that there are no trips hazards, such as children’s toys or bikes, on the path.
    • To make sure everyone is safe we must keep our distance. We understand that children find this very hard to do. Please make sure there is no one in your garden when we arrive. We would love to wave to the children through the window and will enjoy seeing lots of lovely smiles.
    • We will place your food bags where possible off the floor and as near to your door as we can safely do. If this isn’t possible at your house we will place them on the doorstep or footpath.
    • We will knock the front door and immediately step away from the area (a minimum of 2 meters). Please give us time to do this before you open the door.
    • We will wait for a response – please let us know you are there to collect the bags. If there is no answer we will send a text advising you of the delivery.  We won’t be able to take the food away or deliver it later.

It is very important to let us know before we deliver your parcels if a family member in your house has a confirmed case of Covid 19.

We have also added a few extra food items in a separate bag. We know that for some of you it is very tricky to get to the shops and having children at home all day soon empties the food cupboards in all our homes. We wanted to give you a little extra to help.  These items are not from the local authority but have been kindly donated by people in our community, by school staff and by local groups and businesses.

As well as your food parcels this week you will receive a craft pack and some resources for your children to use when they are learning at home. These have been kindly donated to the school from local community groups and businesses.

We really hope you are all still keeping yourselves safe, staying home and looking after each other. We miss you all and look forward to the time when we can all be back together again.

    Regards

    Mrs Hope

  • keeping in Touch

    Fri 01 May 2020

    Dear Parents / Guardians,

Over the last few weeks we have all begun to get used to a different way of working and learning together. We really are a school learning community without walls.

We want you to know we really miss seeing everyone who is part of our school family. Many of you already know that as a school we are now using different ways to communicate with parents, share learning and reward children who engage with the home activities on the school website.

Firstly, can I say a huge ‘diolch yn fawr’ to those parents who have found the time to connect with their child’s teacher on ClassDojo! I know staff have been really encouraged by how many parents have been interested to talk about how their children are getting on with this new kind of learning. If you haven’t had the chance yet, don’t worry, all you need to do is get an access code by emailing your child’s teacher!

Teachers have loved communicating with parents in this way, and being able to see snippets of the children’s learning at home has been wonderful – thank you for the effort you ae putting in, you are ALL amazing!

Using ClassDojo as a way of communicating with parents and sharing learning is new to us all and so when using it there are a few things to remember:-

    • ClassDojo is a great way of communicating with teachers but they will not always be able to respond immediately. The teachers will aim to get back to you between 9am and 3.30pm.

    • We love seeing pictures of the work and activities that the children have been doing. Please make sure that the children are fully clothed if you are sending photos or uploading them to the class portfolio.

    • ClassDojo ‘messages’ should only be used to discuss work and activities. If you have any other worries or concerns please ring the office.

    • The ‘Class Story’ can be seen by all parents. Please make sure any comments you make are appropriate and are about learning. There should not be any conversations with other parents who you may be friends with – keep this to your personal social media accounts.

Following these guidelines will help us all to use ClassDojo in a way that celebrates the learning our children are doing and gives us all the chance to help them be the best they can be, even during these challenging times.
